EAST LANSING, Mich. — Michigan State cross country junior Morgan Beadlescomb has been named Big Ten Athlete of the Week, as announced by the conference on Tuesday.

The Algonac, Michigan native earned a first-place finish at the Panorama Farms Invitational, clocking in at 23:58.7 in the men's 8k. Beadlescomb broke the tape on the Panorama Farms course in Earlysville, Virginia, ahead of all 160 other runners, for a season-best time.

Beadlescomb led the Spartans to a second-place finish in a 15 team field, tallying 82 points, only behind No. 22 Virginia.

This was Beadlescomb's second consecutive first-place finish of the season, as he also helped the Spartans to a first-place finish at the Auto-Owners Spartan Invitational on Sept. 13. Beadlescomb covered the 8k course at Forest Akers East Golf Course in 24:24.9, which was the fastest time on the course by a Spartan since Caleb Rhynard in 2013.

This marks the 16th time a Spartan cross country male athlete has received Athlete of the Week honors since the conference began the award in 1990. The last Spartan to earn Big Ten Athlete of the Week was Caleb Rhynard on Sept. 30, 2014.
