NBA forward and former Michigan State All-American Draymond Green was arrested on a misdemeanor assault charge early Sunday morning in East Lansing.
Cellphone video a viewer sent to FOX 47 News shows Green in handcuffs with two police officers walking him to jail.
East Lansing police are saying exactly what Green did, but say officers who were on patrol downtown saw Green assault another man.
"Typically when the bars let out at 2:00 we'll have several patrol officers in our downtown business district, kind of keeping the peace, and basically were right there when this happened," said Lt. Scott Wriggelsworth with the East Lansing Police Department.
Police aren't saying much else, just confirming Green was arrested around 2:30 Sunday morning outside of Conrads, which is a popular late-night restaurant. Court records show Green is facing assault and battery charges.
"The victim was a male subject, he was uninjured. Green was arrested taken to the East Lansing city jail where he was lodged and subsequently posted a $200 bond and was released in the morning," Lt. Wriggelsworth added.
Charles Tucker, a local sports agent who considers Green a friend, says he can't believe this happened.
"Anything that Draymond Green do would be a surprise if it's anything wrong," Tucker said.
Tucker has known Green for years and says he would be shocked if the 26-year-old did anything wrong.
"Sometimes we get in heated situations, not because of what we do, but because of who we are," Tucker explained. "I'm quite sure Draymond is a great guy, great personality, great humanitarian--so this is having something to use based on something simple because of who he is."
Tucker says like anyone Green can let his emotions get the best of him, but Tucker says Green has been nothing but a role model for his players.
"Draymond Green's very assertive and very opinionated but he a very great guy," Tucker added. "I'm glad my son is around him. He's just a great guy to be around."
Green has 10 days to report to the East Lansing District court for arraignment. If found guilty he could face a $500 fine and/or up to 90 days in jail.
