LANSING, Mich. — Michigan State University: a bipartisan collaboration of political student groups are planting 2,977 flags around MSU’s, “The Rock,” in remembrance of each person murdered. In addition, “The Rock” will be painted in preparation to the evening’s memorial event, featuring a prerecorded address from Governor Whitmer, Heritage Speaker Steve Bucci, along with statements by the student groups and a moment of silence. This event is open to all MSU students as well as members of the public.
What: The hosting groups include the member groups of the MSU Conservative Coalition. Member groups include the MSU College Republicans, The Morning Watch, MSU Turning Point USA, MSU Young Americans for Freedom, and MSU Young Americans for Liberty. In addition, the MSU College Democrats and the JMC Kennedy Democrats are hosting groups.
When: 9/11 Memorial event begins at 7:00PM on 9/11. “The Rock” will be painted the night before, and the flags will start to be planted 9:00AM on 9/11. Photos are fine at any time, unless specified at the event.
Where: “The Rock” at MSU. South of the MSU Auditorium along Farm Lane.
Parking: Available in MSU’s parking lots 39 and 79. They are in very near the International Center. Pay kiosks accept cash or credit card. Visitors are only required to pay until 10:00pm. After that time, it is free. Cars cannot be parked there from 2:00 am to 6:00 am. Locations are as follows: Lot 39 is on N. Shaw Lane just east of Red Cedar Road. Lot 79 is on the southern end of Spartan Stadium. Lot 91, behind Hubbard Hall also accepts visitors.
Who: Student and campus leaders are likely to be present, as well as MSU students and members of the public.
Why: These political groups, representing many ideologies, are proud to come together in remembrance of those murdered on 9/11, the heroes, and America’s resilience.
