On the 17th anniversary of 9/11, dozens of Michigan State University students gathered for a ceremony.
MSU College Republicans, MSU College Democrats, MSU Young Americans for Freedom and Young Americans for Liberty at MSU co-hosted the event.
The students painted a campus landmark, the rock, for the memorial.
They say events like these are an important way to bring people together.
"Well I think it's important to come together in the face of tragedy and that's why it's important to me to show unity and that we truly have not forgotten what happened 17 years ago."
The president of the MSU College Democrats said "we must do all we can to thank first responders and ensure they get the services they need as a result of their bravery."
