LANSING, Mich. — We’re tracking a system that will bring a wintry mix to the area today. Scattered snow showers will build into Mid-Michigan around midday and then mix with and change over to rain off and on through the afternoon and into this evening. Any snow accumulations will be light and mainly on grassy surfaces. Temperatures will top out in the mid 30s today. Light snow will linger overnight and we drop into the upper 20s to around 30 degrees for low temperatures under mostly cloudy skies. Tuesday will be a quiet weather day with partly sunny skies and highs in the upper 30s.
Another system will arrive on Wednesday, bringing both rain and snow to the area. The precipitation will begin as rain on Wednesday afternoon with highs in the mid 40s, and then the rain will change over to snow as colder air moves in Wednesday night into Thursday. Cold air will continue to pour into the region after this system moves through. Temperatures are expected to drop throughout the day on Thursday and we’re looking at lows in the lower teens by Christmas morning. Lake effect snow showers will be possible on Thursday and Friday as the cold air moves across Lake Michigan. Highs Friday afternoon on Christmas top out in the low to mid 20s.
The weekend starts off cold and quiet with lows in the teens on Saturday morning. Temperatures will warm to around 30 degrees on Saturday afternoon with partly sunny skies. Sunday has a chance of rain and snow showers with highs in the mid 30s.
