LANSING, Mich. — Team USA, USA Hockey Arena and sponsors are teaming up with the Michigan Veterans Region 9 VCAT (R9VCAT) for the 8th Annual Salute to Heroes Celebration dedicated to celebrating our local veterans, active military and their families.
Team USA hosts the Chicago Steel on Saturday, March 21st for USA Military Appreciation & Family Night at the arena. We continue a very special tradition as we host a completely cost-free appreciation night for local military, veterans and their families including a reception, photo booth, military resource tables, fun zone for the kids and hockey game tickets. Over 1,800 veterans and military family members attended last year.
The purpose of USA Hockey Military Appreciation Night is to bring veterans of all eras together to enjoy comradery and hopefully take advantage of the resources there to assist them. “We’re making sure all veterans have access to the many resources available to them by bringing those resources directly to the veteran while they enjoy family festivities,” said R9VCAT Coordinator Joshua Parish. USA Hockey Director of Sales and Marketing Denise Ronayne said, “Military Appreciation Night was a huge success, I was able to connect with numerous veterans that didn’t know we provided this free event for veterans and families.” We also heard from local veteran Joshua Masalko who said, “It was a wonderful show of community support for veterans and families, I picked up a lot of useful information.”
Military Appreciation Night has been successful because of the overwhelming support from the community. Working hand in hand with USA Hockey has helped R9VCAT reach many veteran organizations and advocates around the state. Parish stated, “We need more veteran engagement events like Military Appreciation Night around the United States to make a huge impact on all the veteran issues that face the nation, but it can be done!” Masalko said, “Michigan needs to move forward by working harder to make it a top state for veterans to reside, Military Appreciation Night is one of the roads guiding this in the right direction.”
