EAST LANSING, Mich. — The annual Crosstown Showdown Fall Fanfest presented by Auto Owners Insurance, an exhibition between the Lansing Lugnuts and Michigan State Spartans, will be played on Tuesday, Sept. 3 at 7:05 p.m. at Cooley Law School Stadium.
Gates open at 5 p.m. before the home run derby gets underway at 5:30 p.m. The Spartans and Lugnuts will then play a seven-inning game starting at 7:05 p.m. Sparty, the MSU mascot, along with the MSU Spirit Squad and Zeke the Wonder Dog will all be in attendance as well.
“It’s exciting for us, the Crosstown Showdown has been an outstanding thing for our program and moving it to the fall has been a real positive for our team and for the community,” MSU baseball head coach Jake Boss Jr. said. “We want to create more of a festival-like atmosphere, and with the activities, including the home run derby beforehand, I think the atmosphere has turned into just that. It’s been a lot of fun for our guys.”
The first 2,000 fans in attendance will receive a commemorative baseball cap featuring both the Lugnut and Michigan State logos.
“This is a great way to kick it off for us and thank you to the Lansing Lugnuts and that whole staff over there for allowing this to happen,” Boss said. “This is my 12th one, hard to believe, but it really has been a thing that we recruit to in our program and an opportunity for our guys to kind of live out a taste of what their dreams are of playing pro baseball.”
Tickets are available through the Lugnuts ticket office.
