LANSING, Mich. — The Arts Council of Greater Lansing is pleased to announce the opening of City of Lansing’s Arts Projects Grants. The grants support projects that contribute to the enhancement and continued transformation of the City of Lansing ensuring it remains a lively, beautiful and sustainable city with arts and culture serving as a reflection of the city’s diverse community.
More than $82,000 in total funding will be granted to arts and culture organizations with applicants eligible to apply for up to $20,000 each. Applicants must be a Michigan nonprofit or 501(c)(3) with capacity to complete the proposed project.
“The arts are so important to the culture and economic growth of our city, and we are fortunate to have so many fine arts and culture organizations located here,” said City of Lansing mayor, Andy Schor. “This year, those organizations are struggling due to COVID-19, but they are using creativity and innovation to continue bringing the arts to our neighborhoods. We are proud to provide these Arts Projects Grants that support organizations in their work and that make our city stand out from the rest,” Schor said.
Projects must take place within the City of Lansing or specifically be to the service of Lansing residents. Applications for community-driven projects and programs that increase access to arts and culture for residents, businesses and visitors to Lansing will receive top consideration.
“These projects are so important to our community, and the Arts Council is extremely proud to administer the grants on the City’s behalf,” said Arts Council membership and program manager, Taylor Haslett. “This partnership truly demonstrates our city’s commitment to arts and culture and their recognition of its importance in the health and growth of Lansing.”
This year, applicants can utilize 20 percent of granted funds, up from the previous 10 percent, toward operational support as was requested by the Lansing City Council at the 2020/2021 budget meeting held in May. The Council agreed to raise the standard 10 percent that is allotted for project-related operations, recognizing that arts and cultural organizations would be under financial stress as a result of COVID-19 impacts.

The council is also hosting a virtual smARTS Workshop on July 22, 2020 that will review the details of the application process and provide an opportunity for applicants to ask questions.
