GRAND LEDGE, Mich. — In line with their strong commitment to the Grand Ledge community, the Bye Financial Group is spearheading a fundraising kickoff to help raise $15,000 for the Grand Ledge Police Department (GLPD) to continue their K9 program with the enlistment of a new police dog. Bye Financial Group’s kickoff will be held on Thursday, October 24, 2019 between 11:00 AM – 6:00 PM at their office on 1093 Charlevoix Drive, Grand Ledge, Michigan 48837. This family-friendly event is open to the public and will have lunch/dinner of a hot dog or hamburger, chips, drink, and a cookie available for a minimum donation of $5.00. In addition, event participants can meet dogs available to adopt through the Capital Area Humane Society. Bye Financial Group will donate 100% of the proceeds to support GLPD’s K9 fundraising efforts.
Since 1998, the GLPD has proudly provided K9 services to the residents of Grand Ledge and to assist other communities starting with Comet, a German Shepard, the department’s first K9. Comet served with Officer Dick Clark until his retirement in 2005. Ofc. Clark then partnered with K9 Blazer, also a German Shepard, through his retirement in 2011. Ofc. Clark retired from GLPD in January 2019. From 2011 – 2018, K9 D’Ash, a Belgian Malinois, served the greater Grand Ledge community. Among his many successes, D’Ash was able to successfully track a 3-year old child who had walked into a field of tall weeds and become lost. “The addition of a new K9 to the department is not only a great aid to our officers but also provides a tremendous resource to the Grand Ledge community,” said Grand Ledge Police Chief, Tom Osterholzer.
The October 24 fundraising kickoff hopes to raise a significant portion of the funds needed to bring a new K9 to the GLPD force. Mayor Thom Sowle commented, “K9’s have been an integral part of the GLPD for more than two decades. Bye Financial Group is a terrific community-minded business and on behalf of the City of Grand Ledge, we appreciate their support to bring a new K9 to the department.”
Bye Financial Group has successfully assisted other Grand Ledge area groups raise money in the past and looks to this event with the same enthusiasm. “Bye Financial Group has always focused our efforts on supporting the incredible people in our community. When we learned that GLPD was looking to bring a new K9 to the force, we jumped at the chance to help,” said Chuck Bye, owner of Bye Financial Group.
Bye Financial Group has set up a GoFundMe account and is ready to accept donations now at https://tinyurl.com/GLPDK9Support.
