LANSING, Mich. — Join the College of Music they we kick off the 10th anniversary season of the Joanne and Bill Church West Circle Series by celebrating the music of Johann Sebastian Bach on Monday, October 7th at 7:30 p.m. in Fairchild Theatre.
Arguably the most important composer in the history of Western music, Bach’s career took him all around Germany, from churches to royal courts and back. He was devoted to his faith and family above anything else, and these themes were reflected in his music. Having come from a lineage of musicians, Bach instilled the passion for music in his children, some of whom went on to their own fame.
The concert will feature a wide range of Bach’s works, from instrumental concerti to a vocal cantata. The Michigan Camerata will be joined by Jan Eberle, oboe, Yvonne Lamm, violin, and Mark Rucker, baritone. Featured works are the Brandenburg Concerto No. 3 in G major, Oboe Concerto in D minor, “Ich habe genug” cantata, and the Violin Concerto in A minor. Patrick Johnson will serve as the concert guide.
“Please join us for ‘The Celebration Series’ – West Circle’s 10th anniversary,” said Deborah Moriarty, pianist and coordinator of the series. “With the enduring support of Joanne and Bill Church, the series has become an integral part of our music calendar. I am thrilled and excited to see the series continue to delight audiences.”
