EAST LANSING, Mich. — Let us take you on a trip on Monday, November 4th at 7:30 p.m. with a program entirely of works by Latin and South American composers. South of the Border: Celebrating the Music of the Other Americas [music.msu.edu], is the second installment of our 10th Anniversary season of the Joanne and Bill Church West Circle Series.
Travel “South of the Border” with the West Circle Players celebrating the music of the “other Americas.” Tango with Piazzolla on two pianos and enjoy a smorgasbord of music from Latin, Central and South America. Featuring Suren Bagratuni, cello, James Forger, saxophone, Richard Fracker, tenor, Derek Polischuk and Genadi Zagor, piano, and the Women’s Chamber Ensemble conducted by Sandra Snow.
“The program opens with the MSU Women’s Chamber Ensemble exploring choral compositions from Brazil, Venezuela, the Dominican, and Cuba,” said Sandra Snow, professor of choral conducting and music education. “The music has much variety in terms of style, from rhythmic and layered material to beautiful and lyric melodies that set poetry simply. The first song, Sigue, is composed by MSU alumna Ivette Herryman, who recently completed a MM in composition.”
