The new Costco membership warehouse opened its doors in East Lansing Friday morning.
Nearly a dozen shoppers camped out Friday before the store officially opened at 8 a.m. The store is the biggest Costco in Mid-Michigan, located on Park Lake Road, at the former Four Winds Golf Course site.
Store Manager Patrick Mulholland tells News 10 they're expecting upwards of 2,000 customers on opening day. While the store is not offering early-bird specials, Mulholland says deals are set up like a 'treasure hunt.'
"We get merchandise every single day, so every time you come in there's always going to be new items," Mulholland said.
Mulholland says brands customers will find savings on include North Face, Hunter, Kirkland and Ugg.
"We don't try to figure out how much we can sell something for, we try to figure out how little we can sell something for," Mulholland added.
While the store sells typical household goods, groceries, liquor, and electronics, it also carries specialty items including Rolex watches and a nearly $120,000 diamond ring.
The 157,000 square-foot warehouse includes an eye doctor, pharmacy, and tire center, along with a 24-pump gas station.
Memberships start at $60, but the East Lansing store is running sign-up promotions Friday.
It's the 15th Costco to open in Michigan.
While the store opened early Friday, Costco will be open 10 a.m. - 8:30 p.m. during the week, 9:30 a.m. - 6 p.m. Saturdays, and 10 a.m. - 6 p.m. Sundays.
