Free Shakespeare at Wharton Center

EAST LANSING, Mich. — Enjoy a free, open-to-the-public recital on Friday, November 1, of the next generation of great Shakespearean actors … who are local high school and middle school students.

Wharton Center’s Shakespeare Immersion Project provides Michigan students the rare opportunity to work with professionals from the renowned Stratford Festival for an entire week. With the help of the Stratford actors/teaching artists, this annual program focuses on text analysis, language exploration, character development with a variety of theatre activities and movement exercises. Through reflective writing exercises, students gain an in-depth educational experience. Their work culminates in a performance of an abridged version of Hamlet on Wharton Center’s Pasant Theatre stage at 8:00 p.m. on November 1.

Potterville High School – Potterville

St. Francis High School – Traverse City

Lansing Christian High School – Lansing

Charyl Stockwell Preparatory Academy – Brighton

Davison High School – Davison

East Lansing High School – East Lansing

Garber High School – Essexville

Heritage High School – Saginaw

Grand Ledge High School – Grand Ledge

Olivet High School – Olivet

Marshall High School – Marshall

New Lothrop High School – New Lothrop

Join the students to celebrate their week of hard work at this FREE recital.

Visitor parking is available in the ramp adjacent to Wharton Center. The MSU Parking Office operates a Pay By Plate system at this location with an hourly rate of $1.80/hour.
