LANSING, Mich. — The members of the Grand River Environmental Action Team (G.R.E.A.T.) have a canoe/kayak trip on the Grand River scheduled for Sunday, October 6. The trip begins at 11:00 AM at the Maple Grove Rd DNR Boat Launch and take-out is at the South State Rd adjacent to US 127. (Trip Map).

For the shuttle to place your vehicle at the take-out, arrive at put-in between 10:15 AM and 10:30AM. This will be a 2.5 to 4 hour event: remember to dress for the weather and to bring a change of clothing in a waterproof bag.

This paddle winds through mostly natural secluded wooded areas with large trees. The river is mostly wide with a slow current. The water should be fairly cold.

To reserve a canoe or kayak at no charge and to check trip status due to weather, call 517-416- 4234 or check http://www.great-mi.org. Click on the CALENDAR button on GREAT’s website for trip attributes, maps, and put-in and take-out sites. Trips cancelled due to problems with weather or water levels will be scheduled for the following Sunday.

Thank you to all who participated in the September 7 Grand River Clean up!

A total of 70 volunteers helped remove 18 cubic yards of trash from the Grand River along with 9 tires.
