Lansing Community College will highlight the importance of manufacturing during National Manufacturing week Oct. 1-5.
The manufacturing sector remains Michigan's largest employer according to the most recent data from the Bureau of Labor Statistics.
Roughly 621,471 Michiganders worked in manufacturing in June 2017, which is about 13 percent of the state's workforce.
LCC’s Center for Manufacturing Excellence (CME) offers hands-on training in a state-of-the-art facility using the latest equipment and technology with skilled faculty who understand today’s advanced manufacturing.
The need to fill jobs in this field is higher than ever before. Analysts predict more than 3.5 million advanced manufacturing positions will open up in the next decade. These jobs are high paying, high tech, advanced careers that require specific education and training.
CME prepares students for careers in welding, robotics and automation, precision machining and computer automated design. The classes offered teach advanced manufacturing skills including how to program, operate and repair robots, and how to use hydraulics and precision machining to create prototypes with 3D drawings.
Manufacturing is a growing and changing industry in Michigan and remains one of the state’s largest talent gaps as employers scramble to fill high tech manufacturing jobs due to the lack of a sufficiently skilled workforce. LCC is preparing students to work in today’s manufacturing sector where many jobs pay upwards of $50,000.
On Friday, Oct. 5 LCC will inspire area six graders with tours of the CME while introducing them to the career possibilities that could await them in manufacturing.
