LANSING, Mich. — On July 11th, 2020 Carl Flickinger, a Lansing Police Department Radio Technician employee, suffered a tragic event that effected his entire family. The house they were renting in Plainview, MI. caught fire. As a result, Carl and his family lost everything.
Local American Red Cross assisted with temporary housing for the family. Lansing Police Department's Community Services Unit (CSU) team became aware of the tragedy and began working on assisting the family with additional resources. Lansing Police Department’s Social Worker Jane Bidwell provided her assistance and aid to Carl's family, as the children suffer from learning disabilities as well as his wife is a Stroke Victim. Jane was instrumental working with Carl and family locating housing and providing mental health assistance.
Lansing Police CSU set up a “GoFundMe” page on behalf of Carl and his family as well as circulated a donation envelope throughout the Police department. As of 7/28/2020 the department has raised over $3,600 in donations for Carl and his family. In addition to the LPD’s work helping Carl and his family through this tragic event, “Sarah's Smiles”, a discounted/second hand store located in Mason, MI was contacted and they agreed to donate any clothing or household items that Carl and his family needed. https://www.facebook.com/Sarahs-Smile-LLC-103399281471971/ [facebook.com]
Carl and his family have expressed a heart filled Thank You to all of his LPD family and everyone who has donated and assisted his family.
