LANSING, Mich. — The Michigan Association of Broadcasters (MAB) recently awarded their 2020 Michigan Students Broadcast Awards. In the category of College Radio – Public Service Announcement (PSA) it was LCC students taking home top honors.
Digital, Media, Audio and Cinema (DMAC) program students Marja Jones, Daron MacKinder, Jade Smith, Keith Saylor, Christopher Horta-Alcantar and Connor Carlson beat out colleges and universities from across the state with their entry, “I Have A Name.”
The PSA gives a stark overview of what it’s like to be homeless and how those who live this fate are still human beings. The lead role played by Daron MacKinder is a full-circle moment for the young man that spent nearly seven years homeless. MacKinder said, “I related the role to what I’ve been through in life.”
The entries were judged by Michigan broadcasters and were evaluated for their creativity, effectiveness and production value.
The awards were presented at the Main Luncheon at the Great Lakes Media Show at the Lansing Center in downtown Lansing.
