MASON, Mich. — The Mason Lions Club received the 2020 Special Recognition Award from the Mason Area Chamber of Commerce on February 6 at the annual MACC Awards Dinner. State Representative Kara Hope also presented the club with a legislative tribute that was co-signed by State Senator Curtis Hertel.
In the award presentation made to the club by MACC board member Jamie Robinson, the 75-year history of the club was highlighted. The Mason Lions Club affiliate was chartered on June 12, 1944 and has continually served the Mason area with pride through its service projects and grants since that date. The club has been active in ensuring that their community continues to provide growth and opportunity for all local families.
The Mason Lions Club has devoted its time and energy to the wellbeing of its community through strong support of the Lions of Michigan Foundation, Leader Dogs for the Blind, KidSight, Mason Middle School Leos Club, and other programs focusing its efforts on assistance to those with visual and hearing impairments and diabetes.
The Mason Lions Club works on fundraisers to earn the funds necessary to support its mission. Over the years, the club has engaged in White Cane drives, Lions Mint sales, legal raffles and gaming, MSU football ticket-taking, garage sales, sandwich sales, snowmobile races, and other activities to raise needed funds.
Both with volunteer hours and financial means, the Mason Lions Club strongly supports area youth and is devoted to its civic duties as a service organization. The Club is active in community beautification projects, support of the Mason Promise and other scholarship programs, providing food assistance, and giving needed support to other local organizations.
The club usually meets at Bestsellers Extra in downtown Mason at 6:00 p.m. on the second and fourth Wednesdays each month, except in the summer. People in the community with an interest in the club are invited to attend an upcoming meeting as a guest. Call (517) 775-8601 or (517) 676-1856 to reserve.
