LANSING, Mich. — Over the 2018-19 school year, the Mason Public Schools Foundation (MPSF) gifted $110,000 to Mason Public Schools for instructional programming. The MPSF exists to support and enhance the educational opportunities for Mason's youth. The MPSF recognizes that the quality of education available to students is an essential factor in maintaining a strong community, creating productive citizens and believes investment in youth will create a better tomorrow for the community, the nation and the world.
Just one example of the support provided by the MPSF includes the upcoming addition of an afterschool Language Arts and Math Enrichment Program. Courses are available for students in grades 2-3, 4-5 and 6-8. When available, the courses will expose students to curriculum and instruction which is advanced for their grade level while building on what's taught during the school day starting in early spring.
“Thanks to the generous $8,000 grant from the Mason Public Schools Foundation, there is no cost for these afterschool courses to families,” said Superintendent Ronald Drzewicki, Ed.S. “The MPSF is a wonderful asset for the Mason community. The founders of the organization and those who continue to run it truly value education and the future of the community.”
“The Mason Public Schools Foundation is happy to provide funding and support to our school district. Without these funds, raised by the community, students’ exposure to opportunities like the Wharton Center and 3D printing may not be possible,” added Patrick Meyers, President of the Mason Public Schools Foundation.
Additional funds provided by the MPSF last year include:
• Alaiedon Elementary - $4,000 – Library materials
• Harvey Education Center - $4,000 - Wharton Center Broadway Shows field trip in March (Reading Month)
• North Aurelius Elementary - $4,000 - Big History & Science Lesson funding and Restorative Justice program funding
• Steele Elementary - $4,000 - Designation Imagination Teams School assemblies and WIN Enrichment
• Mason Middle School - $9,000 – Transportation to the Holocaust Memorial Center, annual purchase of 75 titles for the media center’s collection, flexible hallway learning spaces, wireless display for the library and printer for student printing
• Mason High School - $15,000 - World language readers for foreign languages, slab roller for the art department, re-purposing the library media center and new furniture, 3D printers, sound equipment for the band and choir and Holocaust Museum field trip funding
• Special Education - $5,000 - Washer & dryer for home living/vocational tasks, 10 touch screen Chromebooks for moderate cognitive impaired classrooms and 4 iPads with indestructible covers
• District-wide Programs - $27,000 – WIN Time Program, $8,000 – After school enrichment program, $30,000 – MPSF final installment of the DART match Technology/Chromebooks funding
