OKEMOS, Mich. — NexTech Lansing High School is providing a Mindfulness Club for its students focused on meditation methods curated to address anxiety, stress and depression. The club meets every Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday for short meditation sessions.

The practice of meditation is becoming increasingly popular in schools as research shows that having a regular meditation practice enhances physical and mental health, and overall well- being.

“Meditation programs give students an experience of stillness, repose and well-being,” said Jamie DeWitt, principal of NexTech Lansing. “We aim to offer this experience to our students through the meditation club.”

The mediation sessions are intended to help address anxiety, stress and depression. NexTech Lansing also hopes students who practice meditation will have stronger self-identity, greater self-acceptance and higher optimism.

“Our hope is with the Mindfulness Club, our students will get the power to tackle any uninvited or unexpected troubles,” said DeWitt. “They will be able to deal with stressful situations calmly and peacefully.”

The club is open to all students at NexTech Lansing High School and will meet every Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday for 15-minute meditation sessions. All students are encouraged to attend.
