The Mid-Michigan Leadership Academy is excited to host an "Ice Cream Social and Birthday Celebration for Stevie Wonder." Stevie Wonder is an alumnus of the Michigan School for the Blind and was a student where many MMLA students attend school today. The event is scheduled for 4 p.m. Thursday, May 19th.

"We are excited to welcome a few of the MSB teachers and students back to campus to share stories and personal experiences to help our students learn more about this campus during its early days," said Dr. Sephira Bailey Shuttlesworth, Director of the MMLA.

The Blind Children's Fund will have a small exhibit of memorabilia from the Michigan School for the Blind. BCF President Carrie Owens, a retired professor from MSU and Oakland University, who taught special education teachers (including several teachers at the MSB), is excited to attend this event at Stevie Wonder's alma mater. According to Ownen's, "Amond the BCF board members planning to attend the event will be several former Michigan School for the Blind teachers, including Kathleen Brazil and Deborah Stuart as well as BCF consultant, Cheryl Lutz."

Also invited to attend this special event are Ann Manning, a former homeroom teacher of Stevie Wonder, as well as his best friend and high school valedictorian for the MSB, J.J. Jackson. Jackson will just be returning from celebrating Stevie Wonder's birthday with him in Los Angeles.

The Mid-Michigan Leadership Academy is a K-8, college preparatory school located at 730 W. Maple Street, on the campus of the former Michigan School for the Blind.
