LANSING, Mich. — This year, the Ronald McDonald House of Mid-Michigan will celebrate 20 years of providing support to families with hospitalized and sick children in the mid-Michigan region and beyond. Celebrations of the milestone will kick off at its birthday party-themed 20th Run for the House event on Sunday, March 22.
“Twenty years ago, the House was a longtime dream of community leaders, health care professionals and advocates,” said Carolyn Hurst, executive director of the Ronald McDonald House of Mid-Michigan. “Sparrow Health System’s Children’s Center is home to the region’s only neonatal and pediatric intensive care medical teams. The House matches the region’s need for specialized care by providing lodging, home-cooked meals, a comfortable place to sleep and all the amenities of home to thousands of patients’ families."
Last year’s race raised more than $46,000 to support the House, providing 1,117 nights for families in need.
“We’re grateful for 20 years of supportive runners, corporate partners, community members and the families we serve for helping us raise tens of thousands of dollars to help provide for the next 20 years of superheroes who will stay with us,” Hurst said.
Title sponsor Michigan State University Federal Credit Union (MSUFCU) is hosting the 5K, 10K and kids’ races at its headquarters campus in East Lansing for the first time in the race’s history.
“The Run for the House is a great way for MSUFCU employees, their families and community members to spend time together participating in fun, physical activities while supporting a great organization,” said Whitney Anderson-Harrell, MSUFCU’s chief community development officer. “We are proud and honored to be the title sponsor of this event, which ties in with our core value of giving back to the community.”
The run will also shift its traditional Saturday race day to Sunday for 2020, with birthday celebrations and the run itself on Sunday, March 22. Registration for the Run for the House event is open now through race day and will also be available in person on race day and at packet pickup March 20 at Playmakers (2299 W. Grand River Ave., Okemos, MI) or MSUFCU Headquarters Branch (3777 West Road, East Lansing, MI).
