WILLIAMSTON, Mich. — Local nonprofit, Weekend Survival Kits, will be the charity partner of the 2019 Taste of Williamston hosted by the Williamston Sunrise Rotary Club. Scheduled for September 19th from 5:30pm to 8:30pm, the event is held at D&G Equipment in Williamston where the Showroom is transformed for a taste-filled sampling event of the area’s favorite dining establishments. Attendees will also have a chance to purchase tickets for Tour of Towns Raffle Gift Baskets and to bid on some very special auction items.

Weekend Survival Kits (WSK) has grown steadily since it was established in 2012. The program coordinates volunteers to pack and deliver supplemental weekend food kits for school children who may be experiencing food insecurity, especially over the weekend. Hunger is one of the greatest barriers to learning, especially for younger school kids.

“In school year 2018-2019 we served over 4,000 kids in 80 schools in 5 Mid and SE Michigan counties and it looks like the number could climb this school year,” shared founder Jeff Gorsline. The WSK program is blessed to have hundreds of volunteers to coordinate this effort. What many do not understand is that the primary cost to run this program is purchasing food from regional food banks. Without fund-raising initiatives like the Taste of Williamston and amazing community partners we will face significant challenges to fulfill our mission of Giving Hope to Hungry Kids.”

The Taste of Williamston is a ticketed event, tickets cost $30 each and can be purchased in advance at this LINK. For those who cannot attend they can still purchase Raffle Tickets online at www.weekendsurvivalkits.org/raffles . Online raffle ticket purchases are $5.50 each, or $5.00 each if purchased from local Rotarians. The drawing for the 10 Gift Baskets will happen at the Taste of Williamston – winners need not be present to win.

D&G Equipment is located at 2 Industrial Park Dr. in Williamston, just off S. Putnam. Please plan on attending. To learn more about Weekend Survival Kits, visit our website to learn more about DONATING or VOLUNTEERING.
