LANSING, Mich. — Dewpoint Inc. of Lansing has donated 25 iPads to Sparrow for a pilot Age-Friendly initiative aimed at advancing the health of vulnerable elders in our community.

The iPads will contain specialized materials and resources and will be provided to a small group of Medical-Surgical patients. The patients will use the iPads to respond to Age-Friendly questions via Sparrow’s MyChart patient app aimed at improving their care. Sparrow is among the first healthcare systems in the country implementing Age-Friendly healthcare. Dewpoint provides integrated business and technology solutions to organizations to maximize their resources and position them for the future.

The Age-Friendly initiative relies on the 4 M’s:

· What Matters: Aligning care with each older adult’s specific goals and care preferences

· Medication: If medication is needed, use age-friendly medication that does not interfere with the older adult’s goals

· Mentation: Prevent, identify and treat dementia, depression or delirium.

· Mobility: Ensure that older adults move safely every day to maintain function.

The goal of the pilot is to be able to expand the Age-Friendly effort to the entire hospital. The iPads

also include educational materials on how seniors can increase their mobility while in the hospital.

“Using this generous gift from Dewpoint will assist our Sparrow caregivers to meet the unique healthcare needs of the ever-growing population of patients over the age of 65,” said Catherine S. Brennan, Sparrow Gerontological Clinical Nurse Specialist.

Said Ken Theis, President and CEO of Dewpoint: “When there is an opportunity to support local healthcare initiatives, the business community should step in. This project is the very essence of what Dewpoint does – we bring business and technology together for the betterment of our clients and our community. We are happy to donate the laptops for such a worthwhile cause.”
