LANSING, Mich. — While the Coronavirus pandemic appears to have stabilized locally, the Sparrow Laboratories Drive-Thru Services site near Frandor is setting records for administering COVID-19 nasal swab, antibody and other blood draw tests.
The location, 3131 E. Michigan Ave. at the former Sears Automotive Center, for the first time saw 500 patients on Monday. Overall, more than 11,000 unique patients have been tested at the site since it opened a month ago. That includes more than 7,000 for the nasal swab test that checks for COVID-19 and more than 3,300 for the blood test that checks if a patient has developed the antibodies to the COVID-19 virus.
Some 23,000 tests – including blood draws for any number of other issues – have been administered at the drive-thru location. Both Gov. Gretchen Whitmer and Ingham County Health Officer Linda Vail have been tested at the site and used the occasions to promote the value of testing.
Activity at the site has been so strong and steady that hours were recently extended to every day from 6 a.m. to 8 p.m. for all services. All seven lanes of the site are now operational.
Sparrow has been a nationwide leader in COVID-19 testing, becoming one of the first hospitals in Michigan to offer tests for inpatients. It’s part of Sparrow’s mission to improve the health of the people in our communities. For more information on Sparrow Laboratories and testing sites, go to Sparrow.org/Labs.
